Midcentury Eames Contract Storage 'ECS' Unit

For your consideration this is extremely rare Eames wall unit produced in 1961. The ECS are seldom found and only produce for a short period of time. Featuring three sections that include a fold down bed on the right side, a desk with shelves in the middle and the storage closet on the left. Lowering the bed reveals a reading light and shelf. The desk knee hole is 27 1/2” high and the desk is a 42” wide x 22 1/2” deep. The desktop has a pull out drawer and a file bin in the back. The three above shelves are 16” D and on the right side have mounted outlets. The closet features a light above the mirror. Under the mirror has a handle that can also be used to hold a towel or other garments. Built inside the closet has 6 sliding bins with wire baskets and three wire racks that are fixed with one additional wood shelf.

This wall-mounted unit was made with ease-of-use and care in mind as it floats above the floor. The small gap in the back of the unit along with the wire shelves provides ventilation. As with all Eames designs this unit is seemingly simple, functional, and beautiful.

The bed section is 42” wide. Is desk section is 46” wide. The cabinet section is 25.5” wide. The total width of the unit is 111”. Total depth of the unit is 25”. The total height of the unit from the top of the bed floor is 86”. The bed is 38” wide and 80 1/2” long.

A perfect compliment to the George Nelson CSS Unit that was also produced by Herman Miler.
